Kentucky Financial Aid Facts:
Kentucky offers some options for paying for college, including both academic and need-based aid. These are all state offered programs for Kentucky residents that attend Kentucky schools.
- Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES)- Merit-based aid that requires a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students can use this scholarship for college or technical school. It is competitive, so the better a student’s high school grades are, the more they will earn toward college scholarships.
- The College Access Program (CAP) - Financial need-based aid that can be used for public and private colleges, universities, proprietary schools, and technical colleges. CAP Grants are awarded to Kentucky residents enrolled for at least six semester hours (half time) in academic programs that take at least two years to complete. Student’s educational expenses cannot exceed $3,850.
- The Kentucky Tuition Grant (KTG) - Provides need-based grants to students attending the Commonwealth’s independent colleges. Eligible institutions must be accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (or an equivalent regional accrediting association) and not have institutional programs comprising solely religious instruction.
