Mahesh Manjrekar, is a talented director, producer, writer, singer, editor as well as politician, who has been in the theatre and Indian Film industry for over two decades now. And since then he has successfully made a valuable mark for himself. He has also acted in several films, portraying mainly grey characters in various movies. He was born on 13th of May, 1953, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He is a powerhouse of talent. He has been showcasing his talent ever since he started his career as an actor and producer in the Marathi theatre. In year 1984, he acted in Marathi play named ‘Aflatoon’, through which he received much of recognition for his true acting skills, and then he appeared in some other plays such as ‘Dhyanimani’, ‘Gidhade’, ‘All the Best’, and so on. He married to Medha and they have two children, Ashwami Manjrekar & Satya Manjrekar. Mahesh started his career in the Bollywood industry as a director. His first directorial venture was ‘Vaastav: The Reality’ (1999), which resolved around Mumbai underworld and featured Sanjay Dutt and Namrata Shirodkar in the leading roles. The film was quite successful commercially as well as critically and was garnered many prestigious awards such as, Filmfare, Screen weekly & IIFA. In year 2000, he reached to the peak of success with ‘Astitva’, which was made in Hindi & Marathi, and featured Tabu, Sachin Khedekar and Ravindra Mankani in the lead roles. For this film he bagged the National Award for Best Film in Marathi along with the Star Screen Award for Best Story and the Star Screen Special Jury Award for the same. He also became renowned for his other flicks such as’ ‘Kurukshetra’, ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai’, ‘Hathyar’, ‘Pyaar Kiya Nahi Jaatha’. Besides direction he acted in many films, including some of his own productions. In 2002’ film ‘Kaante’, he first gained acclaim as an actor. Then he directed other movies such as ‘Rakht’, ‘Viruddh’, ‘Family Comes First’, and ‘Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi’. Also appeared in Bengali cinema called’ Ami Shubhash Bolchi’ which starred Mithun Chakraborty. He also directed many Marathi films as well that are, ‘Fakta ladh Mhana’, ‘Kaksparsh’ and ‘Me Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy’. He not only proved his talented through the films which he directed or produced, but also in the movie he acted in. Be it, Hindi movies such as ‘Musafir’, ‘Dus Kahaniyaan’,’ Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘Wanted’, ‘Teen Patti’, ‘Dabangg’, ‘Ready’, ‘Bodyguard’ & ‘ Oh My God’, ‘Shootout at Wadala’, ‘Himmatwala’ or Telugu flicks like ‘Okkadunnadu’ and ‘Don Seenu’, or even the Marathi movies produced by him, and audiences have witnessed his amazing talent. Apart from direction he made few television appearances in one of the popular celebrity dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ as well as crime series ‘C.I.D’, in which he played a role of Harpist Dongara. He also lent his voice to some songs in Marathi & Hindi movies.
