R Madhavan

R Madhavan is an Indian Film Actor, writer and film producer. He was born on 1st of June, 1970 in Jamshedpur, Bihar, India, into a Tamil Family. His father Ranganathan was worked as Management Executive in TATA Steel and his mother Saroja was a Manger in Bank of India. He has younger sister named Devika who is a Software Engineer and settled in United Kingdom. Though he nursed to join Army, he graduated with a degree in electronics. After completing his graduation he went on to teach communication as well as public speaking at workshops around the country. In year 1999 he married to  Sarita Birje and they have one son. Madhavan did sandalwood tac advertisement in 1996, directed by Santosh Sivan. Later he recommended Madhvan to Mani Ratnam for a screen test for a role in ‘Iruvar’(1997). However he failed to bag that role. Thereafter he moved to television screen and appeared in numerous television series as well as shows such as ’Yule Love Stories’ being his very first venture in the Hindi television serials, then appeared in Zee TV’s ‘Banegi Apni Baat’ & ‘Ghar Jamai’, Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’ , ‘Tol Mol ke Bol. In year 1996, he made his first appearance through a small role in ‘Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin’. His first chance in Indian Film Industry came in the form of ‘Shanti Shanti Shanti’ in 1998 which was a Kannada film. Then in year 1999, one of leading Indian director Mani Ratnam casts him in a lead role in his Tamil romantic flick ‘Alaipayuthey’. This film garnered critical and commercial success which gave Madhavan his breakthrough as an actor. After that he appeared in some of the Tamil movies such as ‘Kannathil Muthamittal’, ‘Run’, ‘Anbe Sivam’, ‘Aayutha Ezhuthu’ for these films he won Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor. He made his mainstream Bollywood Industry debut through movie ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’ alongside Diya Mirza. This movie was remake of his Tamil Film titled ‘Minnale’. Although he hasn’t played many lead roles in Hindi films, but his cameo and supporting roles in some of the films like, ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Guru’, ‘Mumbai Mere Jaan’ are critically acclaimed and appreciated as well.  For his brilliant role in ‘3 Idiots’ he nominated for the category of Best Supporting Actor in prestigious Filmfare Award. In year 2011 he featured in romantic drama flick ‘Tanu weds Manu’ alongside Kangana Ranaut, film gained large success at the box office. He had next seen in ‘Jodi Breakers’(2012). In 2015 he appeared in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ which was a sequel to 2011’s film. This movie earned huge income worldwide and became highest grossing bollywood films in that year. In year 2016,he worked in directorial venture of Sudha Kongara, ‘Irudhi Suttru’, which then made in Hindi with named ‘Saala Khadoos’, received much praise for his amazing performance.
