Rani Mukerji is an Indian film actress. She was born into a Bengali family, on 21st of March, 1978, in Mumbai, India. Her father Ram Mukherjee, is a former director and co-founder of Filmalaya Studios, and her mother, Krishna Mukherjee  is a former playback singer. She has elder brother named Raja Mukherjee, who is producer & director. Her aunt, Debashree Roy is a Bengali actress and her cousin, Kajol, is a famous Hindi film actress.  And another cousin Ayan Mukerji, is a scriptwriter & a director.  She completed her education from Maneckji Cooper High School, Juhu. And graduated in a Home Science from SNDT Women’s University. Despite her parents and most of her relatives are members of Indian Film industry, initially she was uninterested in pursuing her career in cinema. However, she did a short appearance for the first time in her father’s Bengali movie ‘Biyer Phool’(1996). Later on in the year 1997, she played a leading role in social drama flick ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’. Her performance was praised. Thereafter, in the following year she featured opposite Aamir Khan ‘Ghulam’, which directed by Vikram  Bhatt and the film earned moderate commercial success. Later that year, she starred in big budget directorial venture of Karan Johar ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The film was emerged as a Blockbuster hit in India. And earned her award for Best Supporting Actress. Next up she was seen in ‘Mehndi’ (1998) and the comedy ‘Hello Brother’ (1999). Both these films were critically and commercially unsuccessful. After attaining a breakthrough from Karan Johar‘s flick, most of her films worked poorly at the box office for next three years. But in the year 2002, her career began in the path of success through Yash Raj Films ‘Saathiya’. By the year 2004,she had established herself as one of the leading actress of Bollywood industry with major roles in the romantic comedy flick ‘Hum Tu, and the dramas  like ‘Yuva’ & ‘Veer-Zaara’. She achieved further success for portraying a deaf, blind & mute woman in the acclaimed drama film ‘Black’ (2005) and she was next appeared in ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ (2006). The semi-biographical thriller movie ‘No One Killed Jessica’ (2011) alongside Vidya Balan. The movie proved to be her first box office hit in four years, & then she followed it by starring in the successful thrillers such as ‘Talaash: The Answer Lies Within’ (2012) & ‘Mardaani’ (2014). In addition to acting, she also involved in various humanitarian causes and she is vocal about several issues faced by Women& children. She has also participated in several concert tours as well as stage shows. In the year 2009, she appeared as a talented judge for the reality show called ‘Dance Premier League’. On 21st April, 2014, she is married to most famous filmmaker of Bollywood Aditya Chopra and they have one daughter, Adira. Through her Hindi films career, she has become one of the most high profile celebrities in India.
